Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Rhea Perlman, and More Join Margot Robbie in Live Action BARBIE Movie
Issa Rae (The Lovebirds, Insecure), Michael Cera (Juno, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World), and Hari Nef (And Just Like That) are the three latest actors to join the already impressive cast of the live-action Barbie movie based on the classic Mattel toy. Other new cast memebers include Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya and Jamie Demetriou.
They join Margot Robbie, who will play Barbie, as well as Ryan Gosling, who is playing Barbie’s guy, Ken. The cast also includes America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon and Will Ferrell, who will play the CEO of a toy company.
The synopsis for the film remains under wraps, as do the roles for the rest of the cast, but production on the film is underway in the U.K., so I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear more information soon.
Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird, Little Women) is directing the film. She and partner Noah Baumbach, who share 3-year-old son Harold, wrote the script together.
Barbie is expected to hit theaters next year.
