Issa Rae (Insecure) has joined the sequel to Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Rae will take on the role of Jessica Drew a.k.a. Spider-Woman and she joins Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld, who are reprising their roles of Miles Morales, a.k.a. Spider-Man, and Spider-Gwen.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing the film and working on the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). The new directing team consists of Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a favorite film of mine. It set a super high bar and I really hope that this sequel manages to keep that same level of greatness. There are no story details that have been revealed, but it’s sure going to be interesting to see where they take the story!

One thing we know for sure is that it’s going to continue to feature an array of Spider-characters drawn across Marvel Comics’ time and space.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is scheduled to open in theaters on October 7, 2022.
