IT: CHAPTER 2 EW Covers, Photos, and The Cast and Crew Offer Some New Details on the Story

If you’re excited about IT: Chapter 2, I’ve got a few new things to share with you that you’ll want to see! There are a couple of new magazine covers and photo from Entertainment Weekly that put the spotlight on The Losers Club and Pennywise The Clown. The cast and crew of the film also offers up some new details regarding the story and characters that you might be interested in learning about!

When you combine the covers, it looks like this:

IT: Chapter 2 is set 27 years after the events of the first film, and Pennywise returns to Derry from the sewer to kill more children. These events bring The Losers Club back together as adults to try and stop him once and for all.

When talking about what we can expect from the sequel, director Andy Muschietti said, “I think that everything that people love from the first one, like the humor and the emotions and the horror, will all be there, and cranked up, in some cases.”

The adult cast of the film includes James McAvoy as Bill, Jessica Chastain as Beverly, Bill Hader as Richie, Jay Ryan (Beauty and the Beast) as Ben, James Ransone (Generation Kill) as Eddie, with Andy Bean (Here and Now) as Stanley Uris, and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike. The younger versions of these character are played by Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, and Jack Dylan Grazer.

When talking about the character Bill and how he’s portrayed in the movie, McAvoy explains that “He’s in L.A. shooting a movie.” In King’s novel, Bill also writes screenplays, so it makes sense that he’s shooting a movie. When it comes to Richie, though, Hader says that his character is “ not the same as the book.” He doesn’t reveal any details but he does say that “it’ll be a real mindblower.”

When it comes to the character Mike, he stayed in Derry and works as a librarian. He’s the one member of The Losers Club that stayed behind. When talking about the character, Mustafa says that “Mike sees how Derry is very special in a dark way. He’s trying to figure out what the hell’s going on in this town and what he can do to put an end to this cycle. It’s an obsession for him.”

To help him in his efforts, Mike calls his old friends to come back. The big problem with that is the other members of The Losers Club don’t remember the horrific events of their childhood… at first. It eventually all comes back to them. McAvoy goes on to say:

“When you leave Derry, something happens where you forget it all. I think it’s like a [power] of Pennywise’s. Because if everybody could remember what he gets up to every 27 years through history, we’d go, ‘Hey, Derry’s really fucked up, we should do something about that. We should send in the fucking Army!’”

Then, of course, there’s the return of Pennywise The Clown, and according to Bill Skarsgård, “He’s scarier and he’s angrier. There’s a couple of very brutal things in the film.”

We’ll get to learn more about the film next week at Comic-Con, but I love what I’m hearing here and can’t wait to see more from the film!
