IT: CHAPTER 2 Writer Gary Dauberman Discusses Spinoff Possibilities and Rumored Supercut

Stephen King and director Andy Muschietti’s IT films ended up being a pretty big success for Warner Bros. Fans loved these horror movies and I honestly think that there’s a market for more of them. There has been talk of possible prequel spinoff films that could focus on the history of the monstrous Pennywise The Clown. After all, he’s been on earth wreaking havoc and scaring the shit out of people for thousands of years. I would love to see his past explored.

In a recent interview with CBM, writer Gary Dauberman opened up about the possibility of a spinoff, saying:

"I do think it's possible. Anything in the Stephen King Universe interests me but there's only so much of the story we could tell in the two movies. There are definitely elements of the novel you could expand on and make its own movie. It's just a question of whether or not people want to see it but I do think It was on this planet for a very, very, very long time and that's a lot of bloodshed and a lot of stories to tell and I think you could do that for sure."

Well, I hope that they get around to telling some of these stories. You can read about some of the possibilities of what those stories could entail here. It’s a long and horrific history.

When asked about director Andy Muschietti's apparent plans to create a "Supercut" of both IT movies, Dauberman says:

"I know Andy has an idea about a 'supercut' which I would love to see but we cut things for a reason so if there was something I desperately wanted to see or wanted put in there, we could have found a way to put it in. That's not to say that the stuff that's not in there isn't great but we put the stuff that's in the movie there because that's what makes it better.

"I can't think of anything offhand where I'd say I wish we hadn't cut that and I can't wait for people to see but I think there's plenty of things there that fans would love to check out if there was to be a 'supercut.'"

I’d totally be up for a Supercut of the films, but if it never happens, I’m completely happy with what the creative team ended up delivering. What would you like to see from the future of the IT franchise? Would you be interested in seeing more films that dive into the history of Pennywise?
