It Cost a Ton of Money to Bring the Baby Yoda Puppet to Life in THE MANDALORIAN

Actors Adam Pally (Happy Endings, The Mindy Project) and Jason Sudeikis (SNL, Colossal) caught a lot of flack from Baby Yoda fans when they portrayed Bike Scout Troopers in The Mandalorian who were rough with the little guy, even hitting him! People got angry and defensive of him, but one very important fan advocated for him in the moment.

Pally recalled while on the TCA Winter Press Tour event that after the first take of the infamous scene, The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau stepped in. He said:

“I remember the first take that I did when I punched it. They called ‘cut’ and Jon, who was watching on a monitor in his office, came down and said, ‘I just want to let you know that this is the hero [expensive puppet] and it costs, like, $5 million. I want you to hit it, but I want you to know that.'”

Pally went on to explain that the chat made him so nervous, that he actually missed hitting the puppet on the next several takes. But it all worked out. Pally revealed that he and Favreau have been friends for a while now, and Favreau actually came to him and Sudeikis and said he had a special project for them if they were interested. And who would say no to being in a Star Wars show being made for Disney by Jon Favreau? No one!
