The cast of Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day 2 continues to grow with the addition of It Follows and The Guest star Maika Monroe. Emmerich himself announced the news on his Twitter feed. Monroe will be playing Patricia Whitmore, the grown daughter of Bill Pullman's President. The role was previous played by Mae Whitman (Parenthood), and I'm surprised they didn't invite her back to reprise her role the way they did with several of the other actors.
She joins a previously announced cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox, Travis Tope, Joey King, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner.
The sequel is set 20 years after the original film, and it’s great that we will get to see some familiar faces. Will Smith is going to miss out on some fun! The movie is set to hit theaters June 24th, 2016, and production will begin in May.
Monroe can also be seen in the upcoming sci-fi thriller called The 5th Wave, which is set for release on the big screen January 15th, 2016. She stars alongside Liev Schreiber, Ron Livingston, Nick Robinson, Maggie Siff, and Chloe Grace Moretz.
