It Looks Like Zack Snyder's REBEL MOON Sequel Is a Go at Netflix
We’ve heard in the past that Zack Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi action film Rebel Moon would be split into two epic features. Now it looks like those plans have been confirmed as Deadline has revealed the upcoming films set to receive tax credits to shoot in California, and one of the films mentioned on that list is Rebel Moon 2.
The movie was inspired by a Star Wars idea that Snyder pitched to Lucasfilm, and the story is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”
Snyder previously said of the project, “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It's my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure. My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out."
The movie stars Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Doona Bae, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Rupert Friend, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Anthony Hopkins, and Alfonso Herrera.
The project is said to complete shooting in November. There’s no word on when it will be released. I’m excited about this project, and if all goes well, there could also be a number of spinoffs developed as well.
