IT Movie Writer Talks About the Possibilities of Future IT Spinoffs

Two years ago, Stephen King’s classic horror novel It got new life with the first film in a two part series. Fans went crazy for it, and are happily awaiting the second part, It Chapter Two, which will hit theaters on September 6, 2019. With such success, many in Hollywood would like to keep it rolling. In a recent interview with the screenwriter of both films, Gary Dauberman, Bloody Disgusting asked about whether the future of the franchise may have life beyond its second part.

When asked about a spin-off project, Dauberman replied:

“I’m sure there’s interest but I gotta say, We want to be respectful to the material of the book. I don’t think anybody’s over there, in fact I know there’s no one over there going ‘Hey, let’s definitely do this and we could tell this story of what happened at the beaver trapping camp,’ or whatever.”

He went on to say:

“While you could [tell that story], and I think it would be cool, I don’t think that’s what people are doing currently if that makes sense. You know what I mean?”

“So yes, to answer your question I think there is room to build on the mythology of It because It has been around from the beginning of time, but I don’t know if there are any plans for it. I was just very happy to tackle the book.”

That’s actually good to hear. It’s awesome that they gave the fans everything they wanted in the first film, and it’s sounding like the second will wrap up nicely. No need to drag the story out. Are you a fan of It? Would you like to see another movie set in the world of Derry and Pennywise the Clown?
