It Seems Like DC May Have Plans For at Least Five SHAZAM! Films
If you are a fans of DC’s Shazam!, you’ll be happy to learn that Warner Bros. might have plans for a lot more sequels. We know that the first sequel is currently in development, but that could turn into a total of five Shazam! films, if the movies continue to be successful.
Michelle Borth, the actress who plays Mary Marvel, the adult version of Grace Fulton's Mary Bromfield in Shazam!, talks about landing the role thanks to a single taped audition she sent in. When talking about that, she revealed that she landed a five-picture deal:
“It was tears of joy, but it was just so overwhelming. I had never gotten a role from one taped audition, let alone a five-picture deal with Warner Bros. from a one-tape audition. You always have to go through a really long process. There’s a fight to get there, so it was a really incredible moment. That’s all I can say.”
So, if WB signed her up for a five-picture deal, it’s safe to assume that is the same for the of the Shazam! cast and that the studio was looking to make at least four sequels. There’s also a Black Adam movie coming, and it would make sense to see Shazam! and Black Adam eventually face off in another movie. It’s not like the creative team has a lack of story ideas and characters to play with.
I have no idea if there’s a specific plan in place for those sequel, but it is possible that they have something mapped out.
Regardless, Borth revealed that she had no idea what she was auditioning for. WB wanted to keep the secret of what she was auditioning for, and the actual audition didn’t include her saying any lines. Instead they had her dance. The acrtress explained:
“It was one of those really magical moments of, ‘Oh, my God. You hear about this sometimes. Every now and then, this happens,’ and that was mine. I did a great dance, an interpretive dance, and had a lot of fun with it, and then forgot, and that was it.”
I thought Shazam! was a great flick, and I'll be looking forward to seeing what they end up doing next with the story and these characters. What do you hope to see in a series of sequels?
