It Was Chris Pratt's Idea to Cast Kurt Russell in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

All hail Chris Pratt.

In an interview with Empire, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 writer/director James Gunn revealed that it was initially Pratt's idea to cast living, breathing badass Kurt Russell as Star-Lord's father in the movie:

“He was actually not in my head initially, but one day Chris suggested him,” explains Gunn, "and I would have been really disappointed if he’d said no. Hey, if you have to cast anything, Kurt’s a pretty good way to go.”

Hell yeah, he's a pretty good way to go! The guy has played a ton of iconic film characters over the course of his fifty-plus year career, and he seems like a perfect fit to play Ego The Living Planet in this sequel. (I haven't seen the footage from the film that played at Comic-Con, but everyone seems to agree that the masses in Hall H were extremely pleased with what they saw.)

Pratt himself teased a bit of what we're going to see when it comes to Star-Lord tracking down Russell's character in the new movie:

“You’re going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family,” says Pratt. “You’re talking about a guy who’s been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He’ll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.”

I'm going to guess the answer is, at least initially, "no" — because otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much reason for conflict/drama between them in a movie, does there?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
