IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Creators Say They Don’t Want a Long Wait for Season 2 and Tell Fans to “Talk to HBO”

Now that It: Welcome to Derry has wrapped, fan are already asking the obvious question. How long are we going to be waiting for Season 2?! The good news is that the people behind the show don’t want to drag things out. The slightly frustrating part is that the decision isn’t fully in their hands.

During a recent Reddit Q&A, executive producers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti jumped in to answer fan questions about the HBO Max series. The siblings, who also steered It and It: Chapter Two, were asked about the fear of a multi-year gap between seasons, something genre fans have become all too familiar with.

One fan said. "Love the show, please dont make us wait for the next season for years like some other shows do."

Barbara Muschietti responded with a short but telling reply. "Not the intention, I swear! Talk to HBO."

That answer doesn’t come with a Season 2 announcement or a release window, but it does make one thing clear. The creative team wants to keep moving forward. The ball is now firmly in HBO’s court.

Even without an official renewal, the Muschiettis have already been open about where the story could go next. Before It: Welcome to Derry even premiered, Andy Muschietti teased that future seasons were already being mapped out and that the show was designed with a larger plan in mind.

"There is an intentional bigger arc that will open. My intention with this was to create a story that is a little bit like an iceberg under the water all through seasons 1, 2 and 3.

“There will be an expansion in the mythology and more answers to the big questions. The second season will be in 1935. At the end of season 1, we are hinting at the reason why we are going to tell the story in two more seasons – and backwards.”

That potential second season would reportedly center on the Bradley Gang Massacre, one of the most chilling events in Derry’s long and bloody history. After watching the season 1 finale, those comments start to make a lot more sense.

The show ends on a smart twist that reframes what we thought we knew and sets the stage for a very different chapter if the series continues.

For now, fans are left waiting for HBO to make the call. The creators are clearly ready, the roadmap is already sketched out, and the mythology is just getting started. If Season 2 happens sooner rather than later, it won’t be because the Muschiettis dragged their feet.

All episodes of It: Welcome to Derry are currently streaming on HBO Max.
