IT: WELCOME TO DERRY Star Chris Chalk Has Pitched a Dick Hallorann Spin-Off Series
The Season 1 finale of It: Welcome to Derry may have closed off one chapter of the the story, but it also cracked the door open to something much bigger, and one of the show’s stars is already pushing that door wide open.
With the finale leaving major threads dangling, fans are now looking ahead, especially after Chris Chalk revealed he’s actively pitching a spin-off centered on Dick Hallorann.
Chalk has been vocal about wanting to explore more of Dick’s story, and it’s not just wishful thinking. The actor confirmed he’s already floated the idea to the powers that be.
“I’ve pitched it! I have also said, ‘Hey, Dick can kind of do anything. Now that he’s connected to the universe, there’s no need to disconnect him.’” For Chalk, Dick is someone whose journey is only getting started.
The finale strongly supports that idea. Dick’s decision to leave Derry to take a job as a hotel chef directly points toward his future at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. It’s a great and exciting bit of connective tissue between Stephen King’s worlds, and Chalk views more as the ignition point for a darker, deeper chapter.
“Because even once the show’s over, he’s by no means fixed. He’s just broke. He just broke five minutes ago, so I predict that Dick is not well at all still,” Chalk explained.
Dick isn’t walking away healed. He’s walking away fractured, carrying trauma, fear, and an ability he still doesn’t fully understand. A spin-off could track his struggle to control his Shine while dealing with the psychological fallout from surviving Pennywise.
I would love to see the story of this character continue with a spinoff series! Social media has also been lighting up with calls for more Hallorann, with viewers eager to see what happens in the years between his nightmare in Derry and his eventual encounter with the Torrance family.
Right now, nothing is officially announced, but the peices are there and ready to go. The character arc is unfinished, their is fan demand, and Chris Chalk is more than ready to keep going.
Whether Dick’s next chapter unfolds back in Derry, inside the Overlook, or somewhere else, it feels like a story that still wants to be told.
