IT: WELCOME TO DERRY “Weeks Ahead” Trailer Teases More Terror, and Episode 2 Drops Early for Halloween
HBO has unleashed a chilling new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, teasing what’s coming in the “weeks ahead,” and it builds on the chaos of the brutal premiere and offers a haunting glimpse at the horrors still lurking beneath the streets of Derry.
The footage hints that the town’s Native American inhabitants may have discovered a way to trap “It” long ago, possibly explaining why the creature remains tied to Derry. Meanwhile, the U.S. military seems determined to capture the terrifying entity for themselves, which, let’s be honest, is never a good idea.
On top of the trailer drop, HBO revealed a Halloween treat for fans and announced that Episode 2, titled “The Thing in the Dark,” will debut early on HBO Max starting Friday, October 31 at 12:00 am PT/3:00 am ET. It will also air on HBO this Sunday, November 2, at 9:00 pm ET/PT.
Showrunner Jason Fuchs spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how the shocking ending of the premiere sets the tone for the rest of the season. “The entire story of the season is set in motion by what happens at the end of episode 1, this massacre of the Capitol Theater. You'll see in episode 2 the way the aftershocks of that play out.”
He added, “We know that we're telling, in some ways, a story that is familiar. We're going back to a town people have seen, we're going back to a character, Pennywise, that people are now familiar with over the course of two films, and we're gonna have kids in danger.”
“But the question was, 'How do you then still surprise the audience? How do you communicate that from the very beginning of the season? How do you really pull the rug out from under the audience and go, All bets are off, the rules don't apply, anything is possible?'” Fuchs concluded.
From the look of this new footage, It: Welcome to Derry is only getting darker and more disturbing from here. Pennywise’s reign of terror has just begun.
