It's Sad to See BATES MOTEL Go, But It Was a Great Series That Finished Strong!

Last Monday night, we were treated to the final episode of the series Bates Motel. My husband Billy and I were fans since the first episode premiered back in 2013. Freddie Highmore played the famous role of Norman Bates, who we got to see evolve from a high school student, through young adulthood. Vera Farmiga played the role of Norman's mother and namesake, Norma Bates. Both of these characters were incredibly raw, funny, scary and real. I truly believe no one could have played their roles as well as they did.

The show started out with the two of them moving to Oregon to start over. Norma bought a new house and motel to run, and felt that she and Norman could be happy in their new life together. But just as before, trouble followed the Bates', and Norma found herself having to protect Norman and shield him from himself more than ever before.

With an incredible ensemble cast including Max Thieriot, Olivia Cooke, Nestor Carbonell, Kenny Johnson and Ryan Hurst, this show was more than I could have hoped for. I love the original Alfred Hitchcock film, Psycho, as do so many of us film fans, so I know the creators knew they had a lot to live up to. They hit the nail on the head with this series. I even enjoyed the unexpected twists in the telling of the story.

I'm sad to see it go, as it was one of our very favorites, but it got to tell its story entirely and ended just the way it should have. After the final episode, there was a fun little special entitled, Bates Motel: The Final Check Out, where we got to see the cast and creators reminisce on the beginnings of the show, and talk about their relationships with their cast mates. They really truly were best friends, and all considered one another to be family. We got to see some cool fan art, hear the cast answer fan questions, and of course got to see an awesome blooper reel.

If you're a super-fan like me, I'm sure you are sad to see Bates Motel go, and I hope you were just as happy as I was with the finale. If you haven't seen the show, I highly recommend it! The first season is currently on Netflix.
