Jack Reynor, James Franco, and More Starring in Sci-Fi Action Thriller KIN
After working with twin directors The Duffer Brothers on Stranger Things, Shawn Levy's 21 Laps Entertainment is teeing up a new feature film from a different pair of twin directors: Jonathan and Josh Baker, who directed a short film called Bag Man we wrote about a couple of years ago. Deadline reports that they'll direct a feature length adaptation of their short, which will be called Kin, with a script from 10 Cloverfield Lane scribe Daniel Casey. A bunch of actors have already jumped on board: Jack Reynor, James Franco, Zoe Kravitz, and Dennis Quaid.
[The story] revolves around a recently released ex-con (Reynor) and his adopted younger brother who are forced to go on the run. Chased by a vengeful criminal (Franco), the feds and a cadre of otherworldly soldiers, their only protection is a found weapon of mysterious ancestry.
Kravitz will play a woman who joins the brothers on their journey, and Quaid will play the siblings' father.
When Reynor was in contention for the role of young Han Solo, I couldn't understand why. But that's because I had only seen him in Transformers: Age of Extinction (he's terrible in that movie), and I had missed seeing Sing Street. I recently rectified that mistake and now see exactly why he's near the top of short lists for high-profile projects — he's actually really good if he has a decent script to work with. Here's hoping that's the case with Kin. Watch the original short below:
