Jackson White is set to take on the role of a young Jud Crandall in Paramount Players’ Pet Semetary prequel film. The character was previously played by Fred Gwynne in 1989 and John Lithgow and the 2019 film.

Screenwriter Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess is a Loser, Chaos Walking) is making her directorial debut with the film, which will debut exclusively on Paramount+ and begins shooting in August.

Plot details for the Pet Sematary prequel are unknown, but the original story, which the 1989 and 2019 pic was also loosely based on, with their own different twists, followed a family, who after tragedy strikes, discover an ancient burial ground behind their home with the power to raise the dead.

Jud Crandall being cast in the movie, I really hope that it focuses on his story. He has a very interesting history and it would be great to see his story told. in the book, Crandall is the one that introduces the family to the ancient burial ground and later unveils its secrets to the husband and father of the family following a tragic event in their lives…something he would soon regret doing.

As for White, he got his big break in the HBO limited series Mrs. Fletcher. He can be seen next in Michael Bay’s action thriller Ambulance.
