Jake Gyllenhaal and Director Doug Liman Teaming Up for ROAD HOUSE Remake
MGM is developing a remake of the 1989 film Road House with Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) looking to direct and Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to star. Apparently this film project is a priority for the studio. The film has become a cult classic over the years, but maybe the studio sees some room for improvement?
The original movie starred Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, “a zen bouncer hired to clean up a rough-and-tumble bar in Missouri. Dalton’s successful enterprise attracts the ire of the corrupt businessman that controls the small town.” I assume the studio is looking to cast Gyllenhaal in the role of Dalton.
If the deals go through, this project will be the first that Liman and Gyllenhaal have worked on together. Gyllenhaal is set to begin shooting Guy Ritchie’s Afghanistan War thriller The Interpreter and Liman is prepping for production on his adventure film Everest.
While the studio is in talks with getting the talent on board, they are also working on a new draft of the script. What do you think about MGM remaking Road House?
