Jake Gyllenhaal is in Talks To Play Mysterio in The Sequel To SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Looks like the next big Spider-Man villain to be introduced into the MCU will be Mysterio and according to Deadline, Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to take on the role in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming

I actually really like the villain Mysterio and it's pretty cool that he's finally going to make his way to the big screen. I'm also a fan of Gyllenhaal and I think he is a great choice to bring the character to life in the MCU.

For those of you not really familiar with Mysterio, he was introduced to the comics in 1964, and here's a little information on his background:

Quentin Beck was an expert in designing special effects devices and stage illusions, as well as a master hypnotist and magician, and an amateur chemist. He also possessed a wealth of knowledge in hand-to-hand combat techniques that he learned as a stuntman. Unfortunately, all these things did little to help his career in the film industry. One day, a colleague joked that the easiest way to become famous was to take out a costumed hero. It was here that Mysterio was born.

He ended up choosing Spider-Man as the hero he wanted to take down because he felt that he was inexperienced and weak. He thought Spider-Man would be easy for him to beat.

I love that the character is self-made and has no superpowers. He just uses the talents and skills that he has learned over the years to build his villainous persona and fight Spider-Man.

If cast, Gyllenhaal will join Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei in the film. I'm sure we'll see a few other familiar faces as well. Jon Watts is writing and directing the sequel, which is set to be released on July 5, 2019.

This isn't the first time that Gyllenhaal has been in talks to join a Spider-Man film. He was actually up for the role of Spider-Man in Sam Raimi's films.

What do you think about Jake Gyllenhaal playing Mysterio?
