Jake Gyllenhaal Is Remaking Denmark's Oscar Entry THE GUILTY
Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker’s Nine Stories have acquired to rights to remaking The Guilty along with Bold Films. The Guilty is a Danish thriller that won awards at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is Denmark’s Oscar entry, and it sounds like it could be a great film. In fact, Gyllenhaal and Marker had this to say about the film:
“We saw ‘The Guilty’ at Sundance and were blown away. Möller’s film masterfully weaves tension into an acute character study, and is exactly the kind of material that Nine Stories is excited to develop. We are honored to be able to adapt it for American audiences alongside Bold Films.”
Gyllenhaal is set to star in the remake, but I’m confused. If they loved the film, why are they remaking it? Why don’t they just give it a wide distribution? Granted, Gustav Möller (the original co-writer and director of the film) and Lina Flint (the original producer) will be on board as executive producers. Gyllenhaal and Marker will produce for Nine Stories while David Litvak, Michel Litvak, Svetlana Metkina, and Gary Michael Walters produce for Bold Films. Here’s a brief synopsis of The Guilty:
“The movie follows a police officer under investigation, who’s demoted to desk work at an emergency call center. When he receives a terrified phone call from a kidnapped woman, he must battle his internal demons in order to save her.”
Is this a film you’re excited for?
