Not long ago we reported that Michael Bay was looking to direct a bank robbery action-thriller titled Ambulance. Well, it’s been confirmed that he’s taking the gig, and it will be his next big film project. On top of that, Jake Gyllenhaal is in negotiations to star.

Bay is putting the project on the fast-track and is talking to other actors to join Gyllenhaal with plans to shoot in January. Universal Pictures is currently finalizing a deal to land the distribution rights.

The story is said to follow a returned veteran from Afghanistan “who is drawn by his brother into a bank robbery. When the robbery goes horribly wrong, the brothers take hostages and hijack an ambulance. As the situation escalates, old wounds reopen in the relationship between the brothers as they fight to survive what seems like an impossible situation. The original film is mainly set in one location in real time with minimal characters.”

Chris Fedak penned the original script, with James Vanderbilt, Bradley Fischer, and Will Sherak producing. Apparently, the script has “been highly coveted for years but never able to lock down a director before Bay got his hands on it and instantly fell in love.”

Ambulance is a remake of a 2005 Danish film from director Laurits Munch-Petersen. The remake was originally supposed to be directed by Navot Papushado and Aharon Keshales, but they ended up dropping out. Bay jumped into the director’s spot when they left.

I have no doubt that Bay is going to deliver an incredibly thrilling and action-packed bank robbery film. I don’t care what anyone says, I enjoy Bay’s films. They always provide audiences with awesome entertainment.
