Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in PRESUMED INNOCENT Apple TV+ Series From J.J. Abrams and David E. Kelley
Jake Gyllenhaal is jumping into his very first major TV series project that he will star in and executive produce for Apple TV+. The limited series is titled Presumed Innocent, and it’s being developed by J.J. Abrams and David E. Kelley (The Practice, Boston Legal, The Lincoln Lawyer).
The series is inspired by the 1987 courtroom thriller novel of the same name by Scott Turow. That book was initially adapted into a film in 1990 starring Harrison Ford, and it tells the story of a horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys’ office when one of its own is suspected of the crime.
Gyllenhaal will play Rusty Sabich, “the fervent prosecutor suspected of killing a close colleague when the evidence begins to point to him.” This role was played by Ford in the movie.
Kelley will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series. He’s an attorney by trade, and the series is said to be exploring “obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.”
This is a perfect project for Kelley and Gyllenhaal to work on together, and I’m sure it’ll end up being a great legal thriller series.
