James Cameron Has Already Shot the First Act of AVATAR 4
When James Cameron started his Avatar sequel journey, his goal was a total of five films. He’s already finished shooting Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, but before Disney commits to Avatar 4 and 5, they wanted to see how these first films do at the box office.
But, work has already been completed for Avatar 4. In fact, according to producer Jon Landau, the whole first actor of the fourth film has already been shot. Speaking during a press conference, Landau revealed:
“We’ve completed most of the first act of Avatar 4 and there were logistical reasons why we needed to do that. We’ve designed most of the whole movie for ‘Avatar 4’ but we haven’t actually filmed all of it – just the first act.”
Landau went on to discuss the future of the franchise and how the films will explore other biomes and environments on the vast planet of Pandora:
“We could not have delivered what people saw today, five years ago, eight years ago, nine years ago. We needed the time to take it to the level that we’re able to deliver to people today…With each sequel, we’re going to introduce audiences to new cultures and new biomes. We don’t leave behind the cultures that we’ve met.”
It’s going to be interesting to go on this journey that Cameron has envisioned. I hope that he manages to succeed, and I hope that these films end up being great!
The upcoming sequel is set more than a decade after the events of the first film. It “begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
The movie stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet.
Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters on December 14th, 2022.
