We all have our own guilty pleasure movies that we all enjoy watching and during an interview with Empire, Academy-Award winning director James Cameron took a moment to share one of his and explain why. That movie is the 2002 film Resident Evil:

“One of my guilty-pleasure films that I actually think is quite beautifully made is ‘Resident Evil.’ Watching Michelle Rodriguez in that film, moving like this feral creature, is joyful.”

I can totally see why Cameron enjoys that movie. Hell, I even enjoy watching Resident Evil! It’s totally his kind of film and easily the best film in that Resident Evil movie franchise. After that film, they just progressively got worse. So, while that franchise as a whole may not be held in high regard, I think that first movie is solid.

Resident Evil was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and it also starred Milla Jovovich. Fun fact! James Cameron and Ridley Scott were supposed to make an Alien sequel together, but that film ended up being derailed by Alien vs. Predator, which was directed by Anderson.

Cameron also spoke about another classic film that he educated his children with during the pandemic lockdown… True Grit:

“I’ve got my kids at home and their taste is so different than mine. But I try to expand their horizon a little bit. They got a hankering for a Western the other night and I said, ‘What about True Grit with John Wayne?’ They said, ‘Who?’ I said, ‘Alright, we’re watching True Grit.’ They absolutely loved it. My teenage girls are very horse-oriented, and now they know who John Wayne is.”

I’ve been trying to expand the horizon of movies for my girls like that while being locked down, there’s been some hits and misses.

Anyway, what is one of your guilty pleasure films? One of mine is Speed Racer! I freakin’ love watching that movie! But, I also know so many people hate it.
