James Cameron Says AVATAR 4 Is So "Nuts" the Only Notes He Got From the Studio Were "Holy F**k"
If the next two Avatar films end up being a box office success, director James Cameron will get to make at least two more films in the franchise! The reactions coming in from the critics for Avatar: The Way Water have been very positive and promising. But, it sounds like by the time we get to Avatar 4, things are going to go to a whole new level of ambition craziness.
In a recent interview, Cameron shared the notes he got from 20th Century Studios after he turned in the script for Avatar 4, and the response he received was “Holy F**k.” In a recent interview with Collider the filmmaker shared:
"I can't tell you the details, but all I can say is that when I turned in the script for 2, the studio gave me three pages of notes, and when I turned in the script for 3, they gave me a page of notes, so I was getting better. When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, creative executive over the films wrote me an email that said, 'Holy f-ck.' And I said, 'Well, where are the notes?' And she said, 'Those are the notes.' Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?"
I love that, and now I really hope that we get to see what Cameron is planning for Avatar 4! Judging from that reaction, it sounds like he’s going to take the franchise to new heights.
Cameron went on to discuss how Peter Jackson and his work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy influenced him in the development of these Avatar sequels. He explained:
"My model was what Peter Jackson did with The Lord of the Rings, which was a crazy bet in its time. And really hats off to that, that they took that chance to launch on all three of those films. But he had the books mapped out, so he could always show the actors what they needed to know about their character arc. So I felt I had to do the same thing. I had to play this as if the books already existed. So the only way for us to do that was to write all the scripts and let the actors read all the scripts and see where their characters were going and what it all meant. Not that that's actable in the moment, but I think it's something that the actors could work into their preparation for their characters."
The film is set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
The movie stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet.
The movie comes out on December 16th! Do you want to see the “Holy F**k” of Avatar movies!?
