James Cameron Says Matt Damon Still Regrets Turning Down AVATAR, But He Tells Him to "Get Over It"
Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Martian) is an Academy Award-winning writer, and several time Academy Award-nominated actor with many films and roles in his career that have made impacts on his fans. Some of my lesser-known favorite Matt Damon movies are School Ties, Stuck on You, Hereafter, and We Bought a Zoo. But Damon has one role that he deems “the one that got away.”
We reported ten years ago that Damon was bummed to miss out on starring in James Cameron’s Avatar. It’s a film that he has continued to mourn the loss of over the years, and James Cameron recently talked about Damon “beating himself up” about the part in an interview with BBC 1 Radio, with Cameron teasing:
"Matt, you know, you're kinda like one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Get over it."
Yeah, I get where Damon is coming from, but also, it’s not like this was the movie that would have been his big break, or his only chance at stardom. Damon has done pretty darn well for himself, and I think he was able to make other great films instead of this series.
What do you think? Do you think Matt Damon would have been good in the role of Jake, or do you think it was made for Sam Worthington?
