James Cameron Wrote an Entire Manuscript for His AVATAR 2 Stars Detailing What Their Characters Did Between the Two Films

It has been thirteen years since Avatar was released in theaters, and it looks like we are going to see a time jump for the characters in the upcoming film as well. We don’t know exactly how long that period of time will be, but it’s enough that James Cameron, the film’s director, was able to write an entire manuscript about the gap in time between films.

In a recent press conference the film’s star, Sam Worthington, who plays Jake Sully, the disabled ex-marine turned Na’vi freedom-fighter, he revealed that Cameron gave him a massive manuscript before they began shooting the Avatar sequel that detailed the adventures his character had with Neyteri (Zoe Saldana) before settling into domestic bliss.

Worthington explained:

“Jim realized that that story was about them being warriors and taking on battles with other clans. It gave us a good jumping off point to understand how to fill in that gap that’s missing.”

It’s pretty cool that at least the characters can fill in their time together, and build that relationship while they were preparing for the role. Even if it wasn’t the story he wanted to cover in this movie, it is cool to give the characters that backstory to build on. Avatar: The Way of Water hits theaters on December 16th. Are you excited for it?
