James Cameron's AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Passes $2 Billion at the Box Office
James Cameron spent so many years developing his sequels to Avatar, and over the course of that time, a lot of people were wondering if he would actually be able to pull off another epic box office success and pass the $2 billion mark. Well, in the words of Dr. Ian Malcom “He did it, the crazy son of a b*tch did it.”
Over the weekend, Avatar: The Way of Water officially surpassed $2 billion and currently sits at $2.024 billion worldwide making it the sixth highest-grossing film of all-time behind Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Titanic, Avengers: Endgame, and the original Avatar. Three out of the six films were directed by Cameron himself. The filmmaker just has the magic touch!
The movie is still raking in the cash, so it’ll be interesting to see where it ends up when it’s done with its theatrical run. It’s pretty incredible to see Cameron continue to make these movies that dominate the box office.
The film is set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.”
The movie stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement, and Kate Winslet. The story is going to be filled with emotional family drama, but it’s also going to be filled with great action!
There are definitely more sequels coming, and Avatar 3 is tentatively scheduled for December 20, 2024.
