James Franco Is Set to Star in Post-WWII Drama ME, YOU
James Franco is set to star in a post-World War II drama titled Me, You, and he will star alongside Tom Hollander (The Night Manager) and Daisy Jacob (Vanity Fair).
The film is a coming-of-age story that takes place on the Italian island of Ischia in the 1950s. “That’s where Marco, a 16-year-old on break from his dreary Scottish boarding school, befriends U.S. GI turned fisherman Nicola (Franco). The duo while away the hours sailing in the bay of Naples while Nicola regales his young friend with tales of war and oceans.”
But when Marco meets the mysterious 20-year-old Caia (Jacob) “he is entranced and upon finding out she is a concentration camp survivor, he vows to take revenge. Soon he is plotting to set fire to a villa occupied by a group of boorish German tourists in the hopes of winning Caia’s affections.” Hollander plays Marco’s father, Edward.
The movie is described as “Deeply tender and bittersweet” and “explores the raw beauty and tragedy of love, the age of innocence and the bitter realities of war.”
Bille August (The House of Spirits, Les Miserables, Young Indiana Jones) is directing the film, and Franco said in a statement: “I am excited to board this phenomenal project and to be working with the legendary Bille August… I’m a huge fan of his work and Me, You is a truly brilliant script.”
That script was written by Greg Latter (Goodbye Bafana). The film will start shooting in September 2022 on location in Ischia.
Franco hasn’t done much in recent years due to the sexual misconduct allegations that have been made against him. But, it looks like he’s slowly making his way back into acting.
