James Gunn Confirms GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Will Shoot This Year and It's Gonna Be Huge
As fans excitedly wait for James Gunn’s awesome-looking film The Suicide Squad to be released, fans of his Guardians of the Galaxy films are eager to get more information on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Well, the filmmaker took to Twitter to confirm that he’s planning on starting production on the sequel this yea,r and he will start work on it when he’s finished with his Suicide Squad spinoff series Peacemaker, which is currently in production.
Gunn also teased that the movie will introduce new worlds and alien characters, and he makes it sound like this Guardians movie is going to be the biggest one yet! He says, “This. One. Is. Huge.”
We’re all excited too! I’m a huge fan of these Guardians of the Galaxy films, and it’s going to be awesome to finally see the story of these characters continue after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
No plot details on the third installment have been released, but we know that one story arc will involve the team’s search for Gamora, who abruptly left after Thanos was defeated in Endgame. Gunn also previously said that Rocket Raccon will play a big part in the story. He said:
“I’ll just say Rocket is a big part of what’s happening in the future - and a lot of this stuff (like the scars we’re about to see on his back) sets up what I’ve been planning for Rocket all along.
“Part of the cybernetics apparently painfully placed in his body. One of my favorite moments in the movie. Rocket’s loneliness and disaffection is at the center of the franchise for me.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set for a 2023 theatrical release.
