James Gunn Gives Pre-Production and Casting Updates on SUPERMAN: LEGACY
DC boss James Gunn is getting ready to shoot his upcoming film, Superman: Legacy, which is due to go into production in March. He’s getting all the final details prepared, and when asked by a fan on Threads if he could share any updates regarding the film’s production preparations, he responded:
“It’s going swimmingly. Sets being built, costumes being finished, actors studying roles, prosthetics and VFX models being made, flights booked. Here we go.”
When asked how much of the movie’s cast had been locked in, Gunn confirmed that it was “more” than 90 percent but still less than 100 percent.
We already know that Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Lex Luthor, and Sara Sampaio is playing Eve Teschmacher, with Skyler Gisondo taking on the role of Jimmy Olsen.
The cast also includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.
A previous report claimed the plot synopsis for Superman: Legacy would be, “Superman, a cub reporter in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.”
Gunn debunked the report on Threads in December, saying:
“Not sure where this logline came from. I didn’t write it. It has elements of truth (obviously based on things I’ve said in the past). But I wouldn’t describe the plot this way, [and] I wouldn’t call Clark a cub reporter. He’s a thirty-year-old full-on reporter.”
He did, however, confirm a March 2024 production start date for the film. He wrote:
“I’m grateful every day our production team worked their asses off to keep things going through the strikes. Forces impelled us to stop many times — [and] if we had we’d never make July 2025.”
Superman: Legacy hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
