James Gunn Intends to Continue Working with Marvel After GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

James Gunn has given us such a beautiful piece of work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Guardians of the Galaxy. He has brought joy and spontaneity that was much needed in Phase 2 and has such a love for the work. This Monday he stated he would be making Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and that it would close a chapter on “this iteration” of the Guardians.

While I feel sad that this iteration of the Guardians is coming to an end, I also have great respect for his restraint to say one more and then move on to the next stage. Many directors will say they don't intend on making any more of something and then after it makes money changes their mind, but I feel like Gunn is the kind of person who will stick to his word.

But, for fans worried they won't be seeing any more James Gunn/Marvel collaborations, worry not, He's not completely done with Marvel just yet. When asked about this being his final Guardians film he had this to say:

"It doesn't mean it will be the end of my relationship with Marvel."

This has been confirmed with Kevin Feige who said Monday that he could foresee a future in which Gunn would oversee projects beyond Guardians 3. James Gunn also offered a lot of praise to his actors and the new people who are joining the Guardians films:

"I do my homework. Anybody whom I cast and put in the movie is going to be easy to work with. Because the last things I want to do is put a franchise together that we could be stuck doing a long time and be doing it with a bunch of jerks. That would be terrible."

It really does seem like the people he has chosen to work with are wonderful. Even more than just being friendly and family to each other, so many actors have been humble in their interviews and give so much credit to Gunn, and show so much joy to get to be a part of this. This series just might end up being one of my favorites, strongly due to the fact that everyone involved seems to really care about it and each other. It's about outcasts who learn to care for each other. One of the things that stuck with me most from Gunn was this quote:

"The first Guardians was about learning to love other people for people who didn't know how to do it. The second movie has a lot to do with learning how to be loved by other people."
