James Gunn Is Already Writing His Next DC Project Ahead of the Release of MAN OF TOMORROW
James Gunn has been full steam ahead since joining DC as co-CEO of the studio. Over the past four years, he has been working on his own projects, including Superman, Creature Commandos, and Peacemaker, while producing several more at movies and shows DC, and he’s not slowing down.
While he works in post-production on his Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, which is set to hit theatres next summer, Gunn says he’s actually already actively working on writing his next film.
In his Threads account, Gunn was recently asked, “Are you ready to write your next film, James, or not quite yet?” Gunn responded, “Already in it. I had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly!”
Gunn also confirmed on the platform that the assembly cut of Man of Tomorrow is complete. In August, he’d previously confirmed that filming of the superhero flick had wrapped.
Man of Tomorrow will see David Corenswet returning as the Man of Steel. In the sequel, Superman is forced to team up with his adversary Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) as they work to defeat an even bigger threat: the superintelligent antagonist Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).
Rachel Brosnahan is back as Lois Lane. Other returning cast members include Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Milly Alcock, who cameoed as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El, returns for the sequel after headlining this summer’s DC tentpole, Supergirl. The film will also introduce Aaron Pierre to the big screen as John Stewart, who debuted in the HBO Max series Lanterns.
