James Gunn on Why Baby Groot Didn't Want to Get Caught Dancing By Drax
Everyone seemed to really enjoy the scene at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy where baby Groot was dancing. There's a reason why Groot stopped dancing when Drax looked over in his direction, and it's because of a scene that ended up being deleted from the movie.
Director James Gunn recently appeared on Doug Loves Movies, and it was there that he revealed why Groot didn't want to get caught dancing by Drax. Gunn explained,
“There was actually a scene that we cut from the movie where big Groot was dancing to 'Livin’ Thing' by ELO., and it wasn't such an elaborate dance. It was more that he was just moving up and down like this, and Drax was dismissive and gave him this look like he was a loser when he did that.”
This would better explain the death stare that Drax kept giving Groot. Gunn went on to joke that the first thing Drax would do if he were mayor of a town is outlaw dancing.
“Dancing is ludicrous to Drax. I don’t think he understands it. If Drax owned a town, if he was a mayor, the first law would be no dancing. But yeah, so at the end of the movie, little baby Groot didn't want to get caught dancing, because he would kill him.”
I guess Drax must have really hated that “dance off” with Star-Lord and Ronan at the end of the movie. It's a good thing he didn't go ballistic and kill Star-Lord because of it! That would have been an interesting ending to the film.
