James Gunn Releases Explosive GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Concept Art

Director James Gunn has released an official, explosive piece of concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 featuring the team back together including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), baby Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) with the new addition of Pom Klementieff who will be making her big screen debut as Mantisin the movie. As you can see, also joining the team in the image are the villain Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker).

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Jonathan Schwartz talked about what fans can expect from Mantis as she joins the team of heroic outlaws:

“She has never really experienced social interaction. Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”

He also sheds some light on Groot and how he's not the same as he used to be. Not only is he smaller, but his personality has changed as well. Schwartz explains:

“He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot. He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”

It will be interesting to see what actually happens with Groot. I was wondering if he would be the same after the events of the first film. We'll learn more about the film next weekend during the Marvel panel at Comic-Con, so stay tuned!

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

The concept art above was created by Marvel concept artist Andy Park. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5th, 2017.
