James Gunn Reveals That He Tried to Make a CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON Reboot, But the Studio Said No
This is the age of reboots, and many of the classic movies we grew up with have gotten the remake treatment. We’ve seen many of the classic monster movies get updates, but one we haven’t seen a recent version of is Creature From the Black Lagoon, despite James Gunn trying.
Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming summer blockbuster The Suicide Squad, recently told a fan on Instagram (via CB) that he tried to develop a reboot years ago after he earned success writing the remake of Dawn of the Dead in 2004. But Gunn says the studio wasn’t interested. He didn’t elaborate, and he may not have even been given a reason at the time, but it could have been a number of things that had nothing to do with Gunn at all.
I bet any studio would be happy to make themselves available to Gunn at this point, who is currently one of the hottest Hollywood directors. Maybe he will decide to revisit Creature From the Black Lagoon sometime in the future. Would you like to see Gunn remake this movie?
