James Gunn Says He's Busy Writing a DC Studios Project and Fans Are Speculating What It Could Be

James Gunn has a lot on his plate. Fans are stoked for his Superman movie to be released this summer, which he worked on simultaneously with season 2 of his series Peacemaker, and considering that he’s running things over at DC, things don’t seem to be slowing down.

Gunn confirmed he’s got his hands full in response to a fan on Threads who asked Gunn about how he was balancing work on Superman and Peacemaker with pre-production on a slew of other DC projects going on, in which he’s playing producer.

Gunn responded, saying, "The bulk of my time is dealing with post-production on Superman and Peacemaker. But I’m also spending a fair amount of time pre-writing my next DC Studios project and watching dailies and offering ideas on the other projects. It’s much less overwhelming than when I was directing."

It has not been announced which DC Studios project Gunn is writing next. But fans have been buzzing about on Reddit, speculating what it could be.

"I feel like he wants to do Booster Gold himself," one wrote, referring to one of the announced TV shows on the DCU: Chapter One line-up. The latest update on that one came in December 2024 when Gunn shared that the scripts aren't quite where he wants them.

Many fans hope Gunn is diving into Batman: Brave and the Bold. "Please be Batman, please be Batman, please be Batman," another Redditor wrote while a third added: "I hope he does Batman tbh. He seems passionate about Batman."

But the biggest guess amongst DC fans is The Authority, which follows a group of anti-heroes who are known as the anti-Justice League. It does sound right up James Gunn’s alley, considering his biggest previous projects, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, are along the same line.

"The authority would be my bet," wrote one fan on Reddit, while another agreed: "Yep especially since he called it his passion project." A third added: "I’m betting on Superman II or The Authority."

Only time will tell what James Gunn is cooking up next. Which of these, or what else, would you most like to see Gunn tackle?
