James Gunn Says He’s Planning to Direct “A Couple More” DCU Movies, Unless He Gets “So F***ing Tired I Can’t Do It”

With Peacemaker Season 2 finally wrapped, James Gunn is catching his breath, but not for long. The filmmaker, who’s juggling his role as co-head of DC Studios while shaping the future of the DCU, still plans to step behind the camera a few more times.

Gunn confirmed during a recent Peacemaker Season 2 press conference that his directorial run in the DCU isn’t over yet. When asked if he intends to direct again, he said:

"There's a plan that I’m going to do a couple more, at least."

Back when Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled their massive DC Universe slate in 2022, Gunn revealed he’d be writing and directing Superman, which he developed alongside Peacemaker Season 2.

Since then, his focus has largely stayed on that film and his studio leadership duties. But it sounds like the creative itch to direct hasn’t gone away.

He didn’t reveal which projects those “couple more” might be, but it’s safe to assume one of them is the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. Gunn clearly wants to shape the tone and heart of this universe personally.

As for what else he might tackle, that’s anyone’s guess. Maybe he’ll dive into something Bat-family related, or perhaps pull from DC’s more obscure corners, a move he’s famous for. But Gunn also seems content to let other filmmakers take the reins on many of the already-announced projects.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that exhaustion could win out. Gunn joked:

"I may get so f*cking tired that I can't do it, because I’m pretty tired, but we'll see."

So, while the DCU’s creative leader might be running on fumes, it’s clear his passion for storytelling hasn’t burned out just yet.
