Many Big Actors Have Told James Gunn They Want to Play Batman in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD
We are coming up on three years since filmmaker James Gunn and his partner Peter Safran took over as heads of the DC movie Universe. Gunn has made a blockbuster movie and a couple of series since then, and has big plans for several other projects under the DC banner.
Even though he has cast several superhero characters just within the Superman film, including the Man of Steel himself, Gunn says that he has been approached by many actors to play another superhero he has in the works.
In a recent interview with IGN, Gunn revealed many A-listers have expressed interest in playing Batman in the upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold. He also said they are taking some liberties with the well-known Bruce Wayne origin story, and that the film’s plot is still very much “in flux.”
He explained:
“Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it – Yeah, I mean, the actor who wants to…
“Listen, first of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman. I think you’d have a harder time finding actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play. That’s the truth.”
After the great Batman movies of the 80s/90s starring Michael Keaton, Christian Bale brought Batman into the modern era, headlining Christopher Nolan’s highly revered Dark Knight trilogy.
More recently, Robert Pattinson took the reins as the brooding Gotham City vigilante, starring in Matt Reeves’ 2022 reboot The Batman. He will also reprise the role in The Batman: Part II, set for release on October 1, 2027. While those films take place under the DC banner, they are not part of Gunn’s DCU.
The Flash director Andy Muschietti is attached to helm The Brave and the Bold. The film is based on the comic series by Grant Morrison, in which Bruce Wayne teams up with his biological son, Damian, who takes on the Robin moniker. The film is still in early development.
