James Gunn Says PADDINGTON 2 Is “One of the Greatest Movies Ever Made”
James Gunn has never been shy about his eclectic taste in movies, and now he’s revealed a favorite that might surprise some fans… Paddington 2.
Gunn said during an appearance on Konbini’s Video Club series:
“[Paddington in Peru], I haven't seen, but Paddington 2 is a classic film. It’s one of the greatest movies ever made. People think I’m being ironic when I say that. I am not. I am absolutely telling the truth.”
Released in 2017, Paddington 2 follows everyone’s favorite marmalade-loving bear, voiced by Ben Whishaw, as he navigates a new life in London. Things take a turn when Paddington is wrongly accused of theft, leading his adoptive family on a mission to clear his name.
It’s a wonderful and charming film and the cast includes Sally Hawkins, Hugh Bonneville, Jim Broadbent, Julie Walters, and Hugh Grant in one of his most delightfully villainous roles.
Gunn isn’t the only one singing the film’s praises. Critics loved Paddington 2 upon release, and it famously held a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, briefly dethroning Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane before slipping to a still-astonishing 99%. That’s some serious bear power.
As for the franchise, a third installment, Paddington in Peru, hit theaters last year. Meanwhile, Gunn has his own major project with Superman and several other DCU projects currently in development.
It’s not hard to see why James Gunn thinks Paddington 2 is one of the greatest movies ever made. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out!
