James Gunn Says SUPERMAN: LEGACY Will Have a Very Different Vibe From His GUARDIANS Films
James Gunn has made a name for himself across the comic worlds, with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker over at DC, and the entire Guardians of the Galaxy franchise over at Marvel. The Guardians films are about to get their final film next month, and Gunn will be fully transferred over to DC, where he now leads the charge on creating a cohesive world within the DC Universe and their films and TV projects in the way that Marvel has.
The first project on Gunn’s roster that he will personally take on to write and direct is the film Superman: Legacy. While some may assume that Gunn will be bringing over ideas and themes he learned over at Marvel, the director has made it clear that this new film will have a very different vibe from his previous superhero movies.
He explained to Rolling Stone that while the two films do come from comics, he never considered Guardians to be a “comic book movie,” but instead says it was always “a rock opera.” He went on to say:
“I learned so much from making these movies. But it’s not like Superman is going to have exactly the same vibe as a Guardians movie. It’s actually quite different.”
That said, does his success with Rocket make him more interested in possibly taking a chance on the first live-action cinematic version of Superman’s pet, Krypto the Superdog? He laughs at the suggestion, but says:
“I think I would have an interest in a live-action Krypto whether or not I had anything to do with Rocket.”
Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Do you think Gunn will make a good Superman movie?
