James Gunn Says THE FLASH Is "One of the ‘Greatest Superhero Movies’ Ever" and Ezra Miller's Involvement Is Up in the Air
James Gunn is offering up some incredibly high praise for the upcoming DC film The Flash saying that it is “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.” We’ll just have to see about that. I am excited about the movie, but only because Michael Keaton came back to play Batman! That’s really all I’m looking forward to. But, I do hope that it’s as great as Gunn is saying it is.
As far as Ezra Miller’s future involvement is concerned, it’s still up in the air. But, they very well could return and continue to play Barry Allan/The Flash for DC Studios, which is just crazy to me after their erratic behavior and all the insane stuff that they’ve done! When talking about MIller Safran said:
“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery, and we are fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now. When the time is right, when they feel like they’re ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best path forward is. But right now, they are completely focused on their recovery. And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.”
At least Miller is getting the help they need. But, at the same time, they’ve done so much to taint their image. It’s going to be really interesting to see how that all plays out with the future of DC Studios. Miller began treatment this summer for a previously undiagnosed mental health condition and they have stayed out of trouble since.
Gunn and Safran have confirmed that the Andy Muschietti-directed film The Flash will reset everything. There’s no word on how exactly that will happen, but it’s safe to say it deals with breaking up the whole multiverse thing.
When talking about the upcoming DC films The Flash, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2, Safran said: “These four movies are terrific. There’s no reason why any of the characters and the actors playing those characters are not part of the DCU. There’s nothing that prohibits that from happening.”
This movie is going to break open the DC multiverse, the director previously teased "all that you've seen exists." The Flash will see Barry Allen "breaking the bonds of physics to crash into various parallel dimensions, where he’ll encounter slightly different versions of DC’s classic heroes."
There’s no official synopsis, but this is essentially a Flashpoint movie. We are going to see Barry Allen running around the DC multiverse.
Miller will be joined by Ben Affleck as Batman, Michael Keaton as Batman, and Sasha Calle as Supergirl, along with several other members of the DC universe cast. The Flash will be released June 23rd, 2023.
