James Gunn Shares Behind-the-Scenes Photo of Massive Superman Cameo in PEACEMAKER Season 2
James Gunn, the mastermind behind Superman and co-CEO of DC Studios, just dropped a behind-the-scenes photo from Peacemaker on X, and it teases a major Superman connection that ties directly into the wider DC Universe he’s building.
The image shows Gunn on set with Frank Grillo and Nicholas Hoult, and it was taken during the filming of Episode 6, titled “Ignorance Is Chris.”
Gunn humorously captioned it, “Shooting Episode 6 of #Peacemaker with a really great guy and also Frank Grillo. Finale airs this Thursday on @StreamOnMax.”
In the photo, Hoult is sporting an orange prison jumpsuit, standing beside Gunn in a casual black shirt and glasses, while Grillo rocks a black polo. The backdrop is the prison that Lex is in.
Gunn’s post arrived just before the upcoming season finale, and the involvment of Lex has been one of the show’s biggest surprise yet, and it will help set up the events on Man of Tomorrow.
In Peacemaker Season 2, Cena returns as the conflicted anti-hero Chris Smith, joined by Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Frank Grillo, and Sol Rodríguez.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes this season and directed three, including the premiere. He also serves as executive producer alongside Peter Safran and Cena, with Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones handling the other episodes.
The Peacemaker Season 2 finale, titled “Full Nelson,” hits HBO Max this Thursday. It will wrap up Chris Smith’s story arc for now while setting up major threads for the next era of Gunn’s DC Universe, including what’s coming next in Man of Tomorrow.
