James Gunn Shares Exciting MAN OF TOMORROW Update as DCU’s Next Superman Adventure Takes Shape

The Man of Tomorrow movie just took a big step forward, and fans of the new DC Universe are fired up about it.

Following the success of Superman earlier this year, James Gunn has confirmed that pre-production on the highly anticipated sequel is already moving full steam ahead.

Gunn shared a photo on Threads showing a thick stack of storyboard cards labeled “Storyboards sequence #3” with the caption, “Storyboards sequence #3” for Man of Tomorrow. That single post was enough to get fans buzzing about what’s coming next for the DCU’s Man of Steel.

When someone asked Gunn if each card represented a single shot, he replied, “No. Some shots take up more than one card because of movement in the shot.” It’s a small but telling detail that shows just how deep into planning Gunn and his team already are.

Man of Tomorrow is set to bring back David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The movie will continue the story that began with Superman, which launched the new DCU under Gunn and Peter Safran.

While the plot remains tightly under wraps, there’s heavy speculation that Brainiac will be the film’s main villain. DC fans are also convinced the movie will connect in some way to the ending of Peacemaker Season 2, which just wrapped on Max, but it’s unclear how closely those storylines will intertwine.

The film is expected to start shooting next spring, keeping the project right on track for its July 9, 2027 release.
