James Gunn Shares Heartfelt STAR WARS Tribute and How it Inspired GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
It’s Star Wars Day, and fans are celebrating their love of the franchise in a variety of different ways. Let’s face it, the world and movies just wouldn’t be the same without Star Wars. It’s hard to imagine what life would be like without the franchise as it’s affected the lives of so many people in so many different ways.
Director James Gunn recently shared his own heartfelt tribute to the franchise and how it was a huge inspiration for his Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise. Here’s what he said in a Tweet:
“11 years ago I had a meeting with Marvel Studios about the possibility of doing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I remember driving home & thinking I didn't want to make a movie LIKE Star Wars, but a movie that made people FEEL like Star Wars made me feel as a kid. Outlandish characters, extraordinary locations, a space opera with a touch of magic filled with heart. Thank you, Star Wars, for inspiring me, & how appropriate that the third part of our trilogy is playing in theaters all across the world tonight on May the 4th.”
Gunn absolutely pulled off what he was trying to do! I love the Star Wars universe and I remember what it was like for me watching those original films as a kid! I was so immersed in those stories and loved those characters so much. Those movies exploded my imagination in huge ways that I’ve never lost.
The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise made me feel like that all over again. Those films made me feel like a kid again! While they are not Star Wars movies, Gunn succeeded in beautifully capturing the spirit of Star Wars.
