James Gunn Shares His Plan For a Possible SUPERMAN Video Game
On top of all the movies and TV shows being developed for DC Studios, there’s also a Superman video game that we can expect to see at some point. We already knew that James Gunn and Peter Safran were planning on developing games that would connect with the larger DC Universe.
Safran explained: "Gaming is a big part of what we're doing, and everything we do at DC comes through us. Gaming is just part of it, but it's an area that we love, and we think could be really expanded upon." he went on to say that these games they make will put "an emphasis on storytelling and the universe, as opposed to individual movies or television."
Sure! I like the sound of that! When talking about the stories that they tell, he explains that they will be supplementary stories to fill in the gaps between movies. He said:
"it's not like we're going to have 'Superman' come out, and then have the 'Superman' game come out. It's more like, we have 'Superman' come out, then two years later, we have 'Supergirl' coming out. So what's the story in between there? Is there a Kyrpto game that we can play, that comes in between, that's still set in the world with these characters? But that's it's own thing. To sort of give games the prominence that they deserve."
I like that they are looking to give the stories for these games prominence, but at the same time, it also sounds like they will be a 'second fiddle' type story made in an attempt to spread an audience across multiple forms of media.
So, for fans to experience Gunn's full DC arc, they'll also need to have a gaming console and there are a lot of people out there who don’t play video games and are unlikely to ever fill in the gaps left by the games. I guess they can always watch the play-through videos on YouTube!
One thing is for sure, it seems like it’s going to be a very long time before we see any video games, like this Superman one that Gunn mentioned, released.

Superman: Legacy: “This is really the start of the DCU. It is not an origin story. It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing, he is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.”
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow: “And next up is Super Girl Woman of Tomorrow. This is based on Tom King’s wonderful comic book series that came out just last year. It's up for a bunch of awards. This is a very different type of Super Girl. In our series, we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time is an infant versus super girl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She's not exactly the Super Girl we are used to seeing.”
