James Gunn Shuts Down Rumor That Henry Cavill Was Offered Frankenstein Role in CREATURE COMMANDOS
There’s a rumor that’s been going around online that Henry Cavill had been offered the role of Frankenstein in DC Studios’ animated series Creature Commandos. When a fan pointed the report out to James Gunn, linking the story from koimoi.com titled 'Henry Cavill Is Approached To Play Frankenstein In The DCU In A Barter To Forget Superman?', Gunn shut down the rumor:
"Completely false. We have our Frankenstein - our first choice - & it’s not Henry. Was never discussed with him," In another Tweet he posted, he added: "I’ve said in the past we’ve discussed other roles with Henry - just Frankenstein is not one of them."
So, there’s a chance that one day we will see Cavill back in a DC movie, but it won’t be Superman and it won’t be Frankenstein.
Creature Commandos are a band of misfit characters who were introduced in Weird War Tales #93 (November 1980), created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick. The team is comprised of military superhumans including a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. Weasel from Suicide Squad will also be a part of the show.
It was previously explained that this is going to be the first project developed under Gunn and Safran’s leadership at DC Studios, and the story for the project is so big that the only way it could be told is through animation because it would be way too expensive to pull off for live-action.
Gunn shared: "Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC. What we're doing with the DCU is, we are having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We're going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this as well as in other things, some of which we've already cast. I've written all seven episodes of the show.”
I’m excited about seeing how this turns out! This has the potential to be a ton of fun!
