James Gunn Shuts Down Rumors About F-Bombs in SUPERGIRL

As you know, reports have been circulating that the upcoming DC Universe movie Supergirl would become the first film in the new DCU to drop the F-bomb As those discussions gained momentum online, James Gunn stepped in to clear things up himself.

Despite the speculation, Gunn confirmed that Supergirl won’t contain any F-bombs. The DC Studios co-head addressed the rumor directly on Threads after seeing claims spread across social media that the film would feature the expletive. Gunn responded with a straightforward correction, writing:

“There is no F-bomb. But Peacemaker, in the DCU, has always done this hundreds of time.”

The confusion appears to have stemmed from comments made during a recent set visit, where members of the production team discussed the possibility of where a well-placed F-word could fit within the story.

Those remarks led many fans to assume the language would ultimately make its way into the finished movie.

Executive producer Chantal Nong Vo fueled that speculation when she talked about conversations happening during production regarding the film’s PG-13 rating and whether there was room for a carefully chosen use of the word. She explained:

“How many times? We’ll see. Obviously, this is a PG-13 movie, so it’s limited when it comes to ratings, but we have been being like, ‘Is this her f–k? Is this her f–k? So, we have different options. I think there’s one that’s special in Craig’s heart, but we are having a lot of fun with it.”

While it sounds like the creative team had some fun discussing potential options during development, Gunn’s latest comment confirms that none of those possibilities made it into the final version of the film.

The upcoming movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. The story follows Kara on a dangerous journey across the galaxy after a devastating tragedy sets her on a path of vengeance. Along the way, she teams up with an unlikely ally as she pursues those responsible.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the film is the arrival of Jason Momoa as Lobo, a casting choice fans have been eager to see ever since it was announced. The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and David Krumholtz as Zor-El.

Fans already got their first glimpse of Alcock’s Kara when she appeared during the closing moments of Superman, setting the stage for her own cosmic adventure.

With Supergirl set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026, it looks like audiences can stop debating whether Kara will drop an F-bomb and start focusing on what the film is actually bringing to the table: a revenge-driven space epic that introduces some major new players to the DC Universe.
