James Gunn Talks About The Crush-Like Feelings Nebula Had For Star-Lord

There was a fun little moment in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 where Gamora tells Star-Lord that the person he was in love with sounded more like Nebula, which led to an amusing awkward exchange about how much Star-Lord liked Nebula’s dark eyes. There was definitely a little moment of questioning “is there a little something there between us?”

It turns out that Nebula star Karen Gillan very much believes that Nebula does have a little crush on Peter Quill, and during a recent interview with The New York Times, director James Gunn expanded on that a bit and believes that there could be something there. He explained:

"I never thought about fully going there, but do I think that Nebula, emotionally, is sort of that mean schoolgirl who's not going to show her feelings to anybody. Karen thinks that Nebula has a little bit of a crush on Quill that she doesn't quite know how to put together, and it makes sense because as we come to them in 'Vol. 3,' we realize that they are the two leaders of the Guardians. I think it's very normal in any close friendship to have some sort of occasional romantic or crush-like feelings."

It makes sense that Gamora and Star-Lord might have some kind of unspoken crush. It makes sense to me! It might be fun to rewatch these films again just to see if Gillan actually incorporates some of this stuff in the scenes she’s acting alongside Chris Pratt. I like that there’s some subtext there for these two characters.
