James Gunn Teases a Death in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, Shares His Love For Harley Quinn, and More

James Gunn recently confirmed that The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are still on track for their respective 2021 and 2022 release dates and he also took to Instagram to host a Q&A session. During that he offered up a few little details regarding the two highly anticipated movies.

In regards to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he once again confirmed that this will be his final movie in the franchise. He will not make a Vol. 4. When a fan asked him about it, he said:

“I absolutely never said I wouldn’t do a Vol. 2, as I planned to do a trilogy from the beginning if the first one worked. I have no plans to do a [fourth].”

That doesn’t mean he won’t make a spinoff film! He very well could continue the story of a character or characters in a separate film series. He has talked about this before with several characters.

The filmmaker also confirmed that a character will die in the movie. Obviously, he didn’t say who, but when asked directly if someone will die in the film, he said, “yes.” Will it be a main character? It would make sense to see a main character die for an emotional impact, but, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Gunn was also asked about Sean Gunn’s Kraglin character and if he will have a bigger role to play in the upcoming sequel. The answer to that question was, “yeah.” When previously talking about Kraglin and his status with the team, Gunn said:

"I think that that's to be determined. You know, I think that Kraglin's story isn't finished yet. I think I'm comfortable to say that. And I wouldn't go necessarily so far as to say he's a Guardian, but I know that he's on the Guardians ship when the movie ends, so he's there with them."

Now, when it comes to The Suicide Squad, the movie’s timeline will take place following the events of Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey. He also expressed his love for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn after a fan asked him to choose between The Joker or Harley and said it what his favorite character to write for:

“Oh, I love the Joker, but Harley is one of my favorite characters I’ve ever written. In fact, she’s probably my favourite comic character whose personality was well-defined before I wrote her for the screen. She’s an incredible companion to have while writing her insane actions and dialogue. Did I say I LOVED her?”

Well, with that kind of talk I can’t wait to see how he actually handles the character in the movie! Maybe Gunn will finally deliver the live-action version of Harley Quinn that a lot of hardcore fans have been waiting for.
