James Gunn Will Direct THE SUICIDE SQUAD With a New Cast of Characters and There's a Release Date

A few months ago James Gunn was hired by Warner Bros. to write the script for DC’s Suicide Squad 2. Well, according to THR, he is also going to be directing it! It was safe to assume that this would happen, but it’s still great to see that things worked out that way.

I’ve been a fan of Gunn for years. It sucks that Disney and Marvel Studios fired him from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but Marvel’s loss is DC’s gain, and now we are going to be treated to an awesome Suicide Squad movie!

Suicide Squad 2 also has a new title. As of right now, it’s going by The Suicide Squad, and “is not being labeled a direct sequel but as a relaunch.”

The report says that “Gunn’s focus is to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors. Sources also say that the project is also very much rooted in Gunn’s vibe, as seen in the Guardians movies.”

A new cast of characters and new actors filling the roles? Well... I gotta say I wasn’t expecting that, but I’ll gladly welcome the changes! What do you think about Gunn changing things up?

The movie is also set to hit theaters in August 2021.
